ACBA intramural sports
The ACBA has a number of intramural teams on which our members can play.
Basketball
The ACBA runs a basketball league for lawyers and paralegals
who are members and associate members of the association. Teams compete
in three divisions based on their basketball experience and skills. Approximately
25-30 teams participate each year. Games are played on Sunday and Monday
nights at St. Edmund's Academy in Squirrel Hill. The season begins in
the first or second week of January and runs through approximately the
middle of April. Members and associate members interested in participating
in the league should contact Scott Millhouse at 412-553-7063.
Ice Hockey
The ACBA ice hockey team is comprised primarily of practicing attorneys in Allegheny County. The team started its first season in January 2006 and plays year round. The team competes in the A and B leagues at Southpoint, Iceoplex Arena. Games are usually played on Thursday through Sunday nights. Anyone interested should contact Kirk B. Burkley of the Bernstein Law Firm, P.C. at 412-456-8108 or kburkley@bernsteinlaw.com. The team is always looking for new players. The team competes at an advanced skill level, but with enough interest would be able to field multiple teams at different levels of expertise.
Softball
The ACBA softball league is currently a 13 team league comprised of lawyers, paralegals, law students, judges, court personnel, and full time employees of law firms and legal offices. Teams play an 18 game regular season schedule from May-August and all teams qualify to compete in a double elimination tournament in September to crown a champion. Games are played Monday-Thursday each week at Marino Field in Oakland. Those interested in participating in the league should contact Moe Lederman at 412-261-5400.
