Diversity

The Allegheny County Bar Association is committed to advancing diversity and inclusion so that all members of the bar can fully participate in all aspects of the legal profession. The ACBA’s Diversity Initiative was first discussed in 2002 during a meeting of the ACBA’s Managing Partners Forum. Four task forces were assembled as part of this initiative. They included the Law Firm/Law Department Task Force, the Community Outreach Task Force, the Court and Government Agencies Task Force and the Law School Task Force. After achieving consensus on the major issues, in July 2004, the ACBA, the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne University and over 40 local corporations, government agencies and law firms signed the Statement of Purpose, Principles and Objectives for the Diversity Initiative of the ACBA.

Affinity Groups

The ACBA’s Affinity Groups play a vital role in ensuring an inclusive environment where all members are valued, included and empowered to succeed.

ALLY Initiative

The ALLY Initiative of the ACBA endeavors to engage attorneys and their law firms, corporate legal departments, courts and other legal organizations to commit to increasing inclusivity, creating equitable workplaces, empowering historically marginalized and underrepresented members of the bar, and reflecting the community we serve, through active participation in various key programs and projects targeted to achieve these objectives.

Lawyers on Board

The goal of the Lawyers on Board program is to encourage young and diverse lawyers to increase their skills, visibility and gain leadership experience while serving the community through nonprofit board service.
