NLSA expands hours for legal help line

These trying economic times mean more Pennsylvanians on the lower end of the income scale need legal help with a range of issues from utility shut-offs to evictions, and an increase in calls to legal help lines reflect the rising needs. The situation has prompted Neighborhood Legal Services Association to expand services by staffing its telephone help line two additional evenings each week. Low-income individuals seeking assistance with non-criminal legal issues may now reach the NLSA help line at the following times:

Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.

NLSA provides help for residents of Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, and Lawrence Counties. The toll-free help line number is 866-761-NLSA (6572). More information is also available online at www.nlsa.us.

Equity Protection Legal Clinic joins the Pro Bono Center

The Public Service Committee is pleased to announce the addition of the Equity Protection Legal Clinic (EPLC) to the Pro Bono Center. This project provides "legacy preservation" legal services to low-income home owner-occupants. These transactional legal services include matters such as resolving "tangled title" issues and other services that secure and preserve ownership interests in real property. EPLC's managing attorney, Irene McLaughlin, works with law students at the University of Pittsburgh and volunteer attorneys from the ACBA's Real Property Section and Probate & Trust Law Section Council.

Potential clients may contact EPLC through NeighborWorks® Western Pennsylvania, 412-325-7848 x115. For more information about the program, contact Irene McLaughlin, Esq. at mclaughlinster@gmail.com.
