Upcoming pro bono training and volunteer opportunities

"Helping Domestic Violence Victims Obtain Protection Orders"
June 12, 2009, 9:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

This course trains attorneys to obtain final protection from abuse orders (PFAs) for victims of domestic violence. It is open to all attorneys interested in volunteering for NLSA's PFA program. The law firm of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC will host the training at One Oxford Centre, 20th Floor, 301 Grant Street, Pittsburgh, 15219, on Friday, June 12, 2009, 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (registration from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m.). CLE CREDITS: 3 substantive, 1 ethics. REGISTRATION FEE: Free for attorneys or paralegals volunteering to take PFA referrals; $80 for non-volunteers; $20 for non-volunteers who do not want CLE credit. Experienced unemployment compensation attorneys needed

Local legal service providers and pro bono programs are seeing an increase in the number of individuals seeking assistance with unemployment compensation and other employment-related cases. Experienced attorneys are needed to assist clients referred by Neighborhood Legal Services Association and community legal clinics, including North Hills Community Outreach. Workshop on arts non-profit corporations

The Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council and Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts will present a workshop designed for attorneys interested in helping local arts groups to obtain 501c3 non-profit status. Led by Norma Caquatto, adjunct professor at Duquesne Law School, the workshop will cover practical issues for non-profits, steps to form a non-profit in Pennsylvania and with the IRS, and more.

Golf tournament and raffle to benefit legal services

The 17th Annual ACBA Golf Tournament will be held on Monday, July 27, 2009 at Treesdale Golf & Country Club. Proceeds benefit the Allegheny County Bar Foundation's Pro Bono Center and Neighborhood Legal Services Association, which provide pro bono legal services to low-income residents in our community.

Once again, there will be exciting games, raffles, and prizes at the tournament, including the Golf Scotland raffle which offers a chance to win an exclusive golf trip for two to St. Andrews in Scotland or an alternative $5,000 cash option. For more information on this exciting raffle, click here.
