Pro Bono Awards to be presented at Fellows Dinner, September 17 The 2008 ACBA Pro Bono Achievement Awards will be presented at the 12th Annual Fellows Dinner, Thursday, September 17, 2009, 5:30 p.m., at LeMont Restaurant. These awards recognize individuals, law firms, legal departments, and organizations which have made significant contributions to enhancing the provision of legal services to low-income residents of Allegheny County in the past year. Thank you! This grant allows the foundation to offer access to free online legal research for volunteers working on pro bono cases through Pro Bono Center member projects and member organizations. Tickets are now on sale for Pro Bono Rocks! at the Hard Rock Cafe Station Square on Friday, November 6, 2009, 8:00 p.m. This event to raise funds for the Pro Bono Center will feature "Who's Bad," a nationally-known band that covers Michael Jackson songs from Motown to Thriller. Walk the red carpet past our very own "screaming fans" and join us for complimentary pre-show appetizers, valuable raffle prizes, and of course dancing!
Tickets are being advertised to the legal community only until October 1, at which point sales open to the public. We expect this event to be very popular, so get your tickets now by clicking here. Tickets are limited.
Individual tickets are $50. New this year, a very limited number of V.I.P. and reserved-seating packages will be available for purchase. The V.I.P. package includes two tickets to the event, complimentary valet parking, up-front seating next to the stage, a "swag bag," and more, all for $150. Reserved-seating packages for booths near the stage include four tickets to the event and cost $225. Raffle tickets will be on sale for items including an aquamarine and diamond pendant necklace on an 18 karat white gold chain valued at $950 (limited number of tickets to be sold), an "instant wine cellar," and more.

The Fellows Dinner keynote speaker will be Dr. Jim Withers, founder of Operation Safety Net, one of the nation’s first street-medicine programs. Also at the dinner, the bar foundation will induct its Fellows Class of 2009 and the inaugural Young Lawyers Fellows Class, and the 2010 Grants Program recipients will be announced. Tickets are $75/person for Fellows and Fellows guests and $90/person for non-Fellows.
HELP Program--informational meeting, September 10, 2009, 8:00 a.m.
Judge Jay Zainey from the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana will be in town to introduce the Homeless Experience Legal Protection program (H.E.L.P.) to members of the Pittsburgh Pro Bono Partnership. This program will provide legal services to homeless individuals at a monthly clinic. An informational and recruitment meeting with Judge Zainey will be held this Thursday, September 10, 2009, at 8:00 a.m. at Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, One Oxford Center, 20th Floor, 301 Grant Street, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 15219. Breakfast meeting--October 29, 2009, 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
The Pittsburgh Pro Bono Partnership will hold its annual meeting on Thursday, October 29, 2009, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., at the Rivers Club. This year's breakfast will feature a keynote address by Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Debra Todd and a panel of volunteer attorneys who will share their experiences and offer tips for providing legal services to low-income clients through Partnership programs. Come learn about the pro bono Signature Projects of your fellow members and hear how your law firm or legal department can contribute to the ongoing success of the Partnership.
