Neighborhood Legal Services offers Protection from Abuse CLE

"Helping Domestic Violence Victims Obtain Protection Orders"
March 5, 2010, 9:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

This course trains attorneys to obtain final protection from abuse orders (PFAs) for victims of domestic violence. It is open to all attorneys interested in volunteering for NLSA's PFA program. The law firm of K&L Gates will host the training at the Henry W. Oliver Building, 535 Smithfield St., 2nd floor, Pittsburgh, PA 15219, on Friday, March 5, 2010, 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (registration from 8:30 to 9:00 a.m.).CLE CREDITS: 3 substantive, 1 ethics. REGISTRATION FEE: Free for attorneys or paralegals volunteering to take PFA referrals; $80 for non-volunteers; $20 for non-volunteers who do not want CLE credit. Space is limited. Pro Bono Partnership to receive PLAN award

The administrative board of the Pittsburgh Pro Bono Partnership is pleased to announce that the Partnership will receive the 2010 Excellence Award from Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network, Inc. The Partnership is being honored for its unique and innovative collaboration between law firms, corporate legal departments, and other legal services organizations to provide legal services to low-income individuals and families through "Signature Projects" on a community-wide or issue-oriented basis. The award will be presented at PLAN's annual awards dinner on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at the Harrisburg Hilton & Towers. Click here for more information about the award and event.

A project managed by Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney--"Homeless Experience Legal Protection"--was featured in the January 10, 2010 edition of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Family Law Section Mentoring Committee offers shadowing opportunities

The ACBA Family Law Section Mentoring Committee has developed a program to provide opportunities to shadow and observe experienced counsel at hearings, conciliations, and conferences in the Adult Section and in Children's Court. An attorney can coordinate through the Mentoring Committee to observe a support hearing before a Hearing Officer, a complex support matter before a Hearing Officer or Master, a partial custody matter before the Master, a proceeding in Juvenile Court, or a conciliation regarding custody, equitable distribution, or divorce before a judge.
