Volunteers needed for 26th annual KD & You and the Law telethon April 27
The 26th annual KD & You and the Law telethon will be held Tuesday, April 27, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at KDKA-TV studios in Gateway Center. Volunteers will provide free assistance to callers with legal questions. Family Law Section to sponsor CLE April 28 The Family Law Section will hold a CLE entitled "Ethics and Procedures for PFA, Pro Se, and Pro Bono Litigants" on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, 2:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Lawyers can find themselves in difficult situations when representing pro se or pro bono litigants. When is the attorney/client relationship established? Is communication with the law clerk considered ex parte? This program is going to explore those scenarios and provide updates and current law regarding PFAs, the Pro Se Program, the Adult Family Court Manual, and the Judicial Schedule. Volunteer appreciation event May 19 The Public Service Committee will thank and recognize volunteers who provided pro bono services to low-income clients in the past year through Pro Bono Center member organizations and projects. The law firm of Reed Smith is providing the venue for this event, which is free to volunteers. Contact the Pro Bono Center For more information on the Pro Bono Center please contact Barbara Griffin, Esq., Pro Bono Coordinator, at bgriffin@acba.org or 412-402-6668.
Whether you are a veteran volunteer of this event or a newcomer, we can use your help. Attorneys in all areas of the law are needed, but those specializing in family law, elder law, bankruptcy, real estate, and employment are especially needed due to a high volume of calls in those areas. Volunteers are still needed for the following shifts: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
To volunteer, contact Joanna Taylor at jtaylor@acba.org or 412-402-6604 and let her know which two-hour shift you can work and the areas in which you feel most comfortable receiving calls.
CLE CREDITS: 2 substantive, 1 ethics. REGISTRATION FEE: $75.00 for Family Law Section members; $85.00 for non-Section members; $95.00 for non-ACBA members; $50.00 for no CLE credit or non-lawyers.
