Attorneys Against Hunger Campaign Raises $92,000 for 12 Area Hunger Service Agencies - More than $500,000 has been raised since 1993

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – March 9, 2006. Executives of the Allegheny County Bar Foundation today announced that its Attorneys Against Hunger Campaign, now in its 13th year, raised more than $92,000 for 12 area hunger services agencies, far surpassing its goal by more than $14,000. The agencies that will receive the proceeds from the campaign are: the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, Just Harvest, Hunger Services Urban League of Pittsburgh, Jubilee Kitchen, Kosher Super Pantry, Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force, Rainbow Kitchen, and the five food pantries that comprise the Downtown Ministerium Walk-in Ministry. The total raised includes a $15,000 challenge grant by Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott, LLC; the Rita M. McGinley Foundation; and the McGinley family members of the Allegheny County Bar Association.

According to Bryan Neft, Campaign Co-chairperson, “The Members of the Allegheny County Bar Association understand how important it is to eliminate hunger in our community. That’s why we want to make sure the funds we raise are allocated to the most critical programs in Allegheny County.”

Mary McGinley, Campaign Co-Chairperson, said the challenge grant provides additional motivation for past donors to increase their giving levels and for those who have not donated in the past to open their checkbooks and their hearts. “Hunger is a serious problem in Allegheny County and the need goes well beyond what we can see.”

Attorneys Against Hunger is an annual fundraising campaign sponsored by the Allegheny County Bar Foundation. In this its 13th year, the program has raised more than $500,000. The campaign is able to donate every dollar raised to fight hunger, due to Lexis Nexis generously underwriting all of the campaign’s administrative costs.

Incorporated in 1980, the Allegheny County Bar Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, serves as the philanthropic arm of the Allegheny County Bar Association. The Foundation operates a variety of charitable, educational, pro bono and public service activities.
