Pioneers from the Gender Bias Subcommittee honored at WLD's annual meeting By Lisa M. Wolfe For The Lawyers Journal Eight individuals were honored with the Honorable Carol Los Mansmann Helping Hand Award at the Women in the Law Division's annual meeting on May 17. These individuals were honored for their commitment to furthering the mission of the Gender Bias Subcommittee. This year's Mansmann award recipients were Kimberly A. Brown, James W. Carroll, Jr., Hon. Judith L.A. Friedman, Hon. John L. Musmanno, Rhoda Shear Neft, Regina M. Sestak, Ronda J. Winnecour and Lester E. Zittrain (in memoriam). During the meeting, WLD chair Christi Neroni, an associate at Tucker Arensberg, discussed the division's activities from the past year, including the successful presentations, How to handle the top five concerns of your first five years and Rainmaking 101: How to build your book of business. Jonnie Joseph, WLD vice-chair and an attorney with the Women's Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh, discussed the WLD's plans for the next year. A mentoring and professional development series, as well as a mentor recognition dinner, are in the works for 2006-2007. Joseph also said that the division is committed to continue participating in its current activities, including the new admittees reception, Take Your Children to Work Day, the federal court admissions ceremony and its Bench-Bar CLE program. Dr. Phyllis Kitzerow and Dr. Virginia Tomlinson, faculty members of the political science and sociology department at Westminster College were also recognized by Carrie Matesevac Collins, co-chair, along with Judge Livingstone Johnson, of the Gender Bias Subcommittee, for their work on the subcommittee's gender bias survey. Finally, the newly elected WLD officers were announced at the meeting. The 2006-2007 WLD officers are: Chair, Jonnie Joseph; Vice-Chair, Gretchen Kelly; and Secretary, Jennifer Shugars. New council members include: Tom Hollander, serving a one-year term; Alka Patel, serving a two-year term; and Dannielle Cisneros, Jessica Ellel, Natalie Kreter, Lisette (Mimi) McCormick, Joshua Perlman, and Tammy Ribar, serving three-year terms. n
