In Recognition of National Bullying Prevention Month and to Remind Others to Bar All Bullying, Allegheny County Bar Association Offers Complimentary Copies of its Popular Children’s Book, That’s No Joke!

Association will provide two free copies -- one for reading and one for sharing

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – October 10, 2014. Officers of the Allegheny County Bar Association have announced that during October the association will provide two complimentary copies of its award-winning children’s book, That’s No Joke!, to individuals and organizations in recognition of National Bullying Prevention Month and to remind people to Bar All Bullying. The association has been offering one complimentary copy since introducing the book in 2007, but officers hope that area residents will share or pass on the second copy to neighbors, schools or other organizations as a way to continue to spread the key messages of the book and to prevent bullying at an early age. The key messages of the book are: What is the difference between a good joke and a bad one, why making fun of others is wrong, and why it’s our differences that make us special.

According to James W. Creenan, President of the Allegheny County Bar Association, “Although our attorneys are out in the schools throughout the year teaching children why making fun of each other is wrong, we again wanted to do something extra this month to help raise awareness of bullying prevention. We have been amazed that this book has gone global over the past couple of years with requests coming in from as far as Singapore and Australia. It is evident that the messages in That’s No Joke! are universal, and that bullying is an international issue. We hope that people take this opportunity to share the extra copy with their neighbors, schools, places of worship or community groups. Too many children are the victims of bullying, and we have to do whatever we can to stop bullying.”

Creenan said that the bar association recently combined all of its anti-bullying prevention programs and efforts under the theme, Bar All Bullying. “There are many schools, organizations and individuals doing a lot of great work in the area of bullying prevention, but so much more needs to be done. We have asked our 6,400 plus members to join us to bar all bullying, and we also ask everyone in Pittsburgh and surrounding areas to join us on this mission.”

The illustrated book was written and edited by two directors of the Allegheny County Bar Association.
