Hon. Kim Berkeley Clark Assumes Presidency of the Allegheny County Bar Association

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – June 19, 2006.  Executives of the Allegheny County Bar Association have announced that the Honorable Kim Berkeley Clark is the new president of the association for the year 2005-2006.  Clark will be the first judge and first African American woman to hold this prestigious position, and she was introduced as president at the association’s annual conference on June 16th.

“We are delighted to have Judge Clark as president of the Allegheny County Bar Association,” said outgoing president Bob Racunas.   “She is highly respected throughout the Pittsburgh legal community, and she truly has a passion for the law and for the residents of Allegheny County.  Her position as Administrative Judge for the Family Division of the Court of Common Pleas will bring valuable insight to the bar association.”

Judge Clark was appointed to the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County by then Governor Tom Ridge.  She was elected to a full ten-year term in November 1999.

According to Judge Clark, “I am very proud of our bar association, and of the reputation that the association has throughout the Commonwealth and nationally.  I am proud to be the first judge to serve as President, and I look forward to bringing the perspective of the court into the bar leadership.”

Judge Clark says that some of her goals and objectives as president of the bar association will be to increase the participation of minorities, government, and public sector lawyers and judges in the bar association; to encourage greater pro bono service within the membership; and to continue the great programs that already exist at the bar.

Judge Clark has a J.D. from Duquesne University Law School and a B.A. from Tennessee State University in Nashville.  After graduating from law school, she worked for nearly 16 years as an assistant and deputy district attorney.

Judge Clark will work closely with the following officers of the bar association:  Professor Kenneth G. Gormley, President-Elect; Eric R. I. Cottle, Secretary; Mark Vuono, Treasurer; Chad Wissinger, Assistant Secretary-Treasurer; and Robert V. Racunas, Immediate Past President.

Chartered in 1870 and headquartered in downtown Pittsburgh, The Allegheny County Bar Association is a professional organization with more than 6,500 member attorneys, judges, magisterial district judges, legal administrators and paralegals.
