PROMINENT PITTSBURGH ATTORNEY GARY P. HUNT ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE ALLEGHENY COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION

Pittsburgh PennsylvaniaJune 21, 2010.  Officers of the Allegheny County Bar Association today announced that Pittsburgh attorney Gary P. Hunt has been elected its president for the year beginning July 1, 2010. The traditional passing of the gavel ceremony occurred during the association’s annual conference on June 18.

Hunt is a commercial litigation attorney and a shareholder at the law firm of Tucker Arensberg, PC, where he has worked for 30 years. He is well known in the greater Pittsburgh area not only for his litigation and mediation skills, but for his many pro bono and community activities, including his long-time service as a Board member and as Chairman of the Board of the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh and his service as a former Board member and now a member of the Advisory Committee of the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony.

According to outgoing president Kimberly A. Brown, "The Allegheny County Bar Association will be in excellent hands with Gary as president. Gary has displayed devoted service to the legal profession, to the community, and to those in need through his pro bono work. His commitment to the profession and his past non-profit leadership experience will serve him well in his new position as ACBA president."

Hunt has been a long-time and active member of the bar association serving on numerous committees and sections, including serving as Chair of the Civil Litigation Section and Managing Partners Forum, and serving on the Judiciary Committee. He also was one of the original members and co-chairs of both the ACBA’s Diversity Initiative task force and the ACBA’s Gender Equality Initiative task force.

Hunt said he is pleased to continue the excellent work of Brown and the association's board of governors and members.

"The work of our previous leadership and our members set the Association on the right path," said Hunt. "Therefore, my objectives as president can be focused on keeping us on that path. My priorities in the coming year will be to expand and energize our efforts to improve diversity in our legal community, to enhance the ongoing efforts to promote gender equality in the legal community through the work of the Institute for Gender Equality and other coordinated programming, and to encourage and support the pro bono activities of the members of our association. The association is already a positive force in our legal community and our entire Allegheny County community. It is my goal to ensure the continuity and growth of the efforts that have made us a positive force. I am honored to lead the Allegheny County Bar Association, which is admired nationally for its innovative programs and its commitment to service in the entire Allegheny County community." Hunt graduated from the University of Notre Dame and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, cum laude, where he was also a member of the Law Review and was named a member of the Order of the Coif.
