Daniel E. Fitzsimmons is a retired prosecuting attorney. Prior to his retirement, he was the Chief Trial Deputy for the Office of the District Attorney of Allegheny County. Fitzsimmons is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and earned his law degree in 1982 from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. He was an active trial lawyer, concentrating in the prosecution of complex criminal homicide cases. He also supervised the activities, education, and training of the trial attorneys in his office.

Fitzsimmons has served as a Governor of the Allegheny County Bar Association and is a Sustaining Fellow of the Allegheny County Bar Foundation. He has served as the chair of the Criminal Litigation Section and the Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee. Fitzsimmons has served as a member of the Finance Committee, the Professional Ethics Committee, the Membership Committee, the By-Laws Committee, the Judiciary Committee, the Nominating Committee, the Ad Hoc Elections Committee, the Ad Hoc Governance Committee and the Ad Hoc Amicus Brief Committee.

Fitzsimmons has served as a member of the Pennsylvania Interbranch Commission for Gender, Racial and Ethnic Fairness. He has served as a member of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s Criminal Procedural Rules Committee and has worked with the Judges of the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County to revise local rules governing the practice and procedures in criminal matters.

Fitzsimmons is a member of the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association. He has served as a member of the statewide Task Force on Veterans and the Criminal Justice System. Fitzsimmons has served as a member of the Governor’s Commission to Address Gun Violence. He has testified before various committees of the Legislature concerning measures to reduce urban violence, to improve the quality of indigent defense services, and to properly fund forensic science services.
