Allegheny County Bar Association Executive Director David A. Blaner Receives Prestigious Award

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – March 11, 2013. The Officers of the Allegheny County Bar Association (ACBA) today announced that the Conference of County Bar Leaders of the Pennsylvania Bar Association has honored David A. Blaner, ACBA executive director, with its 16th Arthur J. Birdsall Award. Blaner’s selection was announced during the 47th Annual Seminar of the Conference of County Bar Leaders, Feb. 21 - 23, in State College, and it will be presented at the PBA annual meeting in Pittsburgh held May 9-10.

The award honors a county bar executive who demonstrates professional excellence, who is committed to the success of his or her bar association and who significantly enhances the stature of his or her bar association. The award is named in honor of Arthur J. Birdsall, the PBA's county bar services director who retired after nearly 40 years of support to local bar associations.

According to Mark Vuono, president of the Allegheny County Bar Association, “This honor for Dave reconfirms what the members of the Allegheny County Bar Association and Dave’s peers nationwide have known for some time – that Dave is a strategic leader who has been committed in developing a wide range of innovative programs and legal services that benefit our members and the communities that we serve. When we travel around the country, we hear so many compliments about the Allegheny County Bar Association, our staff, and about the programs we have developed, and that all starts with Dave. We are extremely fortunate to have had him as our executive director for the past 12 years.”

Blaner is a longtime member of the National Association of Bar Executives (NABE), presently serving as the group's president-elect. He will become president of that organization in August. He is past chair of the NABE Chief Staff Executive Committee, past chair of the NABE Administration and Finance Section, past chair of the NABE Program Committee and past chair of the NABE Sponsorship Committee. He is past chair and past treasurer of the Great Lakes Organization of Bar Executives and the Pennsylvania Association of Bar Executives.

In addition to providing leadership at the county and state levels of the organized bar, Blaner is the past chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Metro Bar Caucus. He frequently serves as a consultant to the ABA Division for Bar Services, providing peer-to-peer reviews of bar association operations.

Chartered in 1870 and headquartered in downtown Pittsburgh, the Allegheny County Bar Association is a professional organization with more than 6,300 member attorneys, judges, district justices, legal administrators, and paralegals.
