Allegheny County Bar Association to send 700 city students to school with new backpacks
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – August 10, 2009. — Officers of the Allegheny County Bar Association today announced that the association's Backpack Program will provide new backpacks to 700 students at Arsenal Elementary, Martin L. King Elementary and Woolslair Elementary schools. The Backpack Program, which is in its third year of operation, will hand out a record number of backpacks, up from 450 last year.
The Backpack Program is coordinated by the association's Public Service Committee with assistance from Tucker Arensberg, PC; United States Steel Corporation; Pittsburgh Reporting Service; the Allegheny County Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division's Public Service Committee; Romualdi, Davidson & Associates; Tri Rivers Surgical Associates, Bulldog Office Supply Company and several anonymous donors.
On August 11, 2009 at 12:30 p.m. at City-County Building in Pittsburgh, volunteers will prepare the backpacks and supplies for delivery.
"Once again, our attorneys along with our generous business partners are providing much needed assistance to area students to allow them to go back to school with the necessary supplies to further their education," said Kimberly A. Brown, president of the Allegheny County Bar Association. "We are pleased that we can provide assistance to two hundred and fifty more students than we did last year."
Attorney Jonathan McAnney, who coordinated this year's program, said finding attorneys to volunteer is easy. "Our members will drop what they are doing to help our area students whether it is teaching a class or providing these backpacks. Of course, we couldn't provide this program without the generosity of our sponsors."
Chartered in 1870 and headquartered in downtown Pittsburgh, The Allegheny County Bar Association is a professional organization with more than 6,600 member attorneys, judges, magisterial district judges, legal administrators, and paralegals.
