Allegheny County Bar Association Wins National Award For Children’s Book
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Nov. 6, 2008. Jay A. Blechman, President of the Allegheny County Bar Association, today announced that the association has received a 2008 Luminary Award for communications excellence from the National Association of Bar Executives (NABE) for That is No Joke!, an illustrated children’s book that was written and edited by two directors of the association.
The Allegheny County Bar Association was among just 16 bar associations and their communications professionals to receive Luminary Awards this year. The NABE Communications Section’s Luminary Awards program recognizes excellence in marketing, public relations, regular publications, special publications, electronic publications, and websites. Winners include representatives from small, medium, and large bar associations from around the country.
“Bringing home an award of this caliber is a true testament to our staff’s professionalism and is a wonderful recognition of the work that this bar association does to serve the public,” said Blechman. That is No Joke! reinforces important messages presented in our schools and teaches children the differences between a good joke and a bad one, why making fun of others is wrong, and why it’s our differences that make us special.
Tom Loftus, Director of Marketing and Media Relations for the bar association, wrote That is No Joke! Attorney Jennifer A. Pulice, Director of Communications, edited the book, and it was illustrated by Christopher Mikolajczyk, a designer with Pentagon Printing Corporation. That is No Joke! reinforces the key messages of the association’s successful This is a Joke – Making Fun of Others is Not! program which is presented by attorneys to children in grades K–5.
“The NABE Luminary Awards provide recognition for excellence in the field of communications,” said Barry Kolar, assistant executive director of the Tennessee Bar Association and chair of the Luminary Awards Committee. “These award winners represent the best in their field nationwide, so they and their associations can be proud of this special recognition.”
Special thanks go to the Luminary Awards sponsor Thomson Reuters Legal for supporting this competition and providing a striking award that winners now proudly display. Appreciation also goes to fellow NABE Communications professionals who served as judges.
