These online resources can certainly be helpful, but they should be taken with a word of caution. As with anything posted online, just because it’s there doesn’t mean it’s true. Also, some websites that rate health care providers do not afford them the opportunity to respond to ratings and comments about their service. As such, they should be treated as one of many sources of information in selecting a health care provider, not the only source.
The Pennsylvania Department of State maintains a website that allows patients to search for licensure information on their health care providers, including physicians, nurses, chiropractors, dentists, occupational and physical therapists, pharmacists, podiatrists, radiologists, and more. If you or a loved one is receiving care in a hospital or long-term care facility, the Pennsylvania Department of Health posts information online about the facilities’ survey history and licensure status.
