Basketball
The ACBA runs a basketball league for lawyers who are members or associate members of the association. The league also permits law firm staff members to play on a team of attorneys. Teams will compete in one division with approximately 11 teams, made up of 10 players. Each team will play one game per week Sunday evening at the Squirrel Hill JCC from the first weekend in January through March. The number of games everyone plays depends on how many teams register, but each team will qualify for a playoff game. Cost of the league will be $1,100 per team. Teams from law schools will be able to register at a discounted price. Membership in the league is by team, but interested individuals will be placed on a team. Thank you to bit-x-bit, LLC and Baird - Fleming Rodgers Group for sponsoring the ACBA Basketball League. Email Scott Scheinberg, League Commissioner, at sscheinberg@hilgerslaw.com to reserve your team’s spot.
Soccer
The ACBA Soccer League is a gender-inclusive space for all lawyers, law clerks and law students of all skill levels to play and to network with members of the community. Space is limited to eight teams, so teams new to the league are encouraged to reach out via the below email as soon as possible to confirm a spot. Cost is $75 per ACBA-member attorney or law clerk and $50 per law student, but teams may register with a sponsorship from a law firm to reduce or eliminate individual cost. Interested individuals who want to register will be assigned to a team. Rosters will be limited to a maximum of 15 players, including at least three women. At least two women per team must be on the field at all times. The regular season consists of 7-8 games (depending on league size), with playoffs games taking place shortly after the regular season concludes. The league runs biannually, with the spring season occurring from May through July. Games are played on Sundays from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Winchester Thurston Athletic Field in Shadyside. Please direct any questions to commissioner Josh Sallmen at jsallmen3@gmail.com.
