Beware of SMS Texting (Smishing) Attacks

Attorneys, like others, are increasingly being targeted by SMS Texting (Smishing) Attacks. They try to trick users to take actions like giving up login credentials, credit card or bank account passwords, or installing a fake mobile app. A common example is a fake text purporting to be from the U.S. Postal Service or a delivery service stating that mail or a package is being held for additional delivery information. Smishing texts are sometimes followed by fake phone calls (vishing – voice phishing).

As with phishing, an important safeguard is being constantly aware of the threat when using texts. Think before you connect, click, or act.
