Online Gaming – It’s All Fun and Games – As Long As You Protect Yourself!

From sports to role-playing to multiplayer combat games, online gaming has come a long way since the days of Pong, Pac Man and Frogger. While these platforms can offer a fun escape from the daily grind, be mindful that they are also fruitful ground for fraudsters and scammers. Keep these tips in mind if you (and/or your children) are online gamers:

  • Calls to Action: Be wary of any messages that ask you to take action, such as downloading a file. These efforts can be in-game phishing attacks that can infect your PC and steal your information.
  • Password Protection: Use unique passphrases for gaming accounts and enable two-factor authentication, if available. This will help thwart attackers from taking over your account.
  • Keep Up to Date: Enable automatic updates, where available. This will limit the occurrence of system vulnerabilities.
