Safe Text Messaging
Text messaging is a common form of communication today for both personal and professional exchanges. Like emails, text messages present both benefits and risks.
Risks include lack of permanency (when a record is needed), auto-complete (potentially resulting in errors), replying to group messages (when only one addressee is intended), emotion (when not appropriate), confidentiality, privacy and malicious messages (SMS phishing- smishing). It is important for attorneys to be constantly aware of these risks, every time they’re texting. Think before you hit send.
