The Dec. 12 edition of Pittsburgh Legal Journal Opinions is available online. The Pittsburgh Legal Journal publishes timely, precedent-setting, full-text opinions from various divisions of the Court of Common Pleas. Opinions that appeared in past editions are available in a searchable database here; members must be logged in to the ACBA website to access this database.

The ACBA’s 27th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Breakfast and Program will be held on Monday, Jan. 19 at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church in Pittsburgh’s Larimer neighborhood beginning at 7:30 a.m. The event – one of the biggest and most storied MLK Day events in the entire region – begins with a buffet breakfast, followed by a prayer service, commemorating the life of and legacy of Dr. King and his contributions to changes in law and social justice. The highlight of the event will be the presentation of the Drum Major for Justice Award to the Hon. Nicola Henry-Taylor.

ACBA Members and attorneys from throughout the bar are invited to join local leaders, elected officials and members of the community at large to celebrate. No pre-registration is required, and the event is open to all ACBA members and the public at large.

Every year, the ACBA Women in the Law Division presents the Carol Los Mansmann Helping Hand Award to an individual who embodies Judge Mansmann’s values and dedication to advancing and improving women lawyers’ roles in the legal profession. Now is the time to submit nominations for this year’s award.

Nominees for the award may be any member of the ACBA at any juncture of their career who not only excel in their legal career but also dedicate themselves to elevating others in the profession through their mentorship. Nominations of those who have contributed significantly to the WLD are highly encouraged. Submit your nominee’s name, along with examples of how they embody Judge Mansmann’s values and/or reasons they are deserving of the Helping Hand Award. Please be as descriptive as possible and feel free to supplement with additional information, such as articles, website links, etc. Submit nominations using this form to Amber Archer at ala@ssf-lawfirm.com by noon on Dec. 31.

In this non-CLE program, learn the essential skills needed to respond in an emergency and help save your dog from pain, suffering, or even death at a non-CLE lunch-and-learn on canine first aid. The course will be held Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 12:15 p.m. in the Koppers Building Conference Center. Led by a former Special Prosecutor for Animal Cruelty with extensive experience in animal rescue and triage, attendees will learn practical techniques for stabilizing and treating an animal while quickly seeking veterinary care.
